The format
for both championships remain the same - identical
boats with identical engines and a strict no modification rule that will
now be enforced.
The 150 Class
- remains unchanged.
The 21ft Cougar hulls will still be
propelled by the impressive performance and reliability of the Honda
BF150 4-stroke outboard engine.
The 225 class
- Under P1 rules the 27ft race tuned
Cougar hulls will be fitted with the more powerful 300bhp Mercury
2 stroke engine. The power upgrade will see top speeds
increase from 67mph to over 80mph. Whilst the 4 Nations
will no doubt
stick with proven Honda BF225.
International
venues - 4
Nations will involve five venues spread accross England,
Ireland Scotland and Wales and propose a European event. P1
Superstock will host 4 UK venues and two European rounds
but teams will have the option to compete for a world championship title,
UK national title or both.
Teams, spectators and sponsors will be
spoilt for choice in 2010. Whilst the Honda Formula 4-Stroke Series
celebrated it's 10th and final year in 2009 it did not signal the end to
the most successful offshore powerboat racing format in the world. The
extreme high risk close action racing that captured TV audiences from
around the world enters the next phase of it's evolution.
The biggest challenge facing the teams
right now is:
Do they race in
P1 Superstock
Championship
or the
4 Nations Championship
